Valora Herta Schardt, 85, was born on August 30th, 1929 at home near Carleton, Nebraska to Henry C. & Emilie Albrecht Schardt. Valora was the seventh child of ten born to Henry C. & Emilie. Baptized in the year of her birth at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Friedensau Nebraska. She was confirmed in her faith in 1943 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Friedensau Nebraska. She attended the North Friedensau Parochial school through 8th grade and completed her education at the Deshler High School; graduating in 1947. Following graduation, Valora worked at a bank in Fairbury Nebraska until she was married. On June 27th, 1951 Valora Schardt married Herman Wurtz at the Clara Church. A reception followed in Fairbury, Nebraska at the Marietta Hotel. The day of their wedding there was a big rain storm that caused flooding in the area. The saying that rain on your wedding day is good luck proved to be true for Herman and Valora as they were married for over 50 years. Following their marriage Herman and Valora resided on their farm 10 miles north of Clifton. Born of this marriage were five children; Gary, Raymond, Bruce, Dana & Ronda. They were an adventurous couple that enjoyed traveling and dancing. Some of the places they visited during their marriage included; Spain, Mexico, Colorado, Maine, Arizona, California, Florida and Hawaii to celebrate their 30th wedding Anniversary. Valora was a homemaker and active in the Clifton community. She participated in the St. Mary’s Altar Society, a weekly card club and a quilting group at the Clifton Senior Citizens Center. Throughout the community Valora was known for selling her farm fresh eggs that she raised and sold for many years. Her hobbies included gardening, taking care of her rose garden, crocheting, quilting, cross stitch, canning, baking pies and spoiling her seventeen grandchildren. She always had a treat, a hug and her ear ready for her grandkids when they needed her. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, grandson Michael Gene, Brothers Paul, Edgar, Leonard and Sister Irma. Her surviving family members include her son Gary and wife Sarah of Valley, Nebraska; Raymond and wife Mary Jo of Clifton, Kansas; Bruce and wife Julieann of Riley, Kansas; Dana and wife Laurel of Clifton, Kansas; Daughter Ronda and husband Tom Franco of Garden City, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Loraine Rupprecht of Portland Oregon, Emily Seibenneicher of Hebron Nebraska, Frances Ritterling of Byron Nebraska, Florence Eickmann of Sedan, Nebraska and Mildred and her husband Elmer Holtzen of Deshler Nebraska and their families. Valora passed away at the Linn Community Nursing home on February 15th, 2015 at the age of 85. She will be laid to rest on February 23rd, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery North of Clifton, KS next to her husband Herman and grandson Michael Gene. Funeral Services: Monday, February 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Clifton, KS Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clifton, KS Visitation: Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 4-7 PM with rosary at 7 PM at Turner Funeral Chapel Memorials: Valora Wurtz memorial fund to be designated later.
