Veda Hyatt Dunn Clevett, 88 , a former resident of Junction City, passed away on Friday 30th of
July 2010 at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Healthcare facility at the age of 88.
Veda was born on may 25, 1922 on the Hyatt Ranch near Hyattsville, Wy., daughter of Samuel
Calhoun and Loretta Rouene Hyatt. Veda was raised at Hyattville and attended elementary school
in Hyattville and graduated from Manderson High School. Where she was active in 4-H excelling
in swine showmanship. Veda graduated from the University of Colorado with a Masters Degree
in Music. Veda married Virgil Brown in Denver and moved to Germany where she continued to
study music at the University of Munich. After a divorce, Veda moved back to Denver where she
continued to study and teach music. Veda then married Pat Doran in Cheyenne Wy. and the
couple adopted three daughters. After the couple divorced, Veda moved back to Denver
Colorado where lived and taught music.
Veda met Emerson Dunn , a fledging minister, and the couple moved to Junction City Kansas
where they made their home and built the First Christian Church in Wakefield Kansas. Veda
worked at Fort Riley in the Division Chaplains’ office, was a member of the Junction City
Troubadours, taught piano lessons to many and was active being a ministers wife. After
Emerson’s death in 1988, Veda returned to Denver to obtain her Doctorate in Christian
Counseling working at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Hospital in Denver and as a private
counselor through her church. Veda loved to ballroom dance and won many awards while
competing. She then married Bud Clevett in Denver . Bud died shortly after their marriage.
In 2002. Veda moved to Thermopolis WY to be near her two brother and their wives and her
sister. Veda was very active in the Hot Springs Christian Church where she was the church’s
musician and led Bible study groups.
Veda is proceeded in death by her parents, her husbands, by her brothers Gene Hyatt, Wesley
Hyatt and Milton Hyatt; and her sister Maxinne Hyatt: by her niece Sherry Tencich and nephews
Sam Hyatt and Lanny Hyatt and her sister-in-law Dorothy Hyatt.
Veda is survived by her daughters Gaylene Pepion, Tina Usick, and Carolyn Doran all of Denver,
CO; by 4 grandchildren; by her sister-in-laws Loretta and Margaret Hyatt both of Thermopolis;
and several nieces and nephews. and her adopted family Jack and Debbi Freeman and family of
Junction City, KS.
Funeral services were held on Thursday August 5th at 10:00 at Hot Springs Christian Church in
Thermopolis with her friend Daryl Lottman officiating. Burial will follow on Wednesday August
11th @ 10:00 am at the Highland Cemetery in Wakefield , Kansas.
