VELMA MYRTLE MODEN, 96 died May 30, 2014 at Medicalodge in Clay Center, KS. She was born on July 8, 1917 in Clay County, KS. The daughter of Horace and Ethel (Cowell) Yarrow. Velma was raised on the family farm near Wakefield. She graduated from Wakefield High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College and Asbury College in Kentucky. She taught at Golden Ridge, Pleasant View and Broughton schools. Velma married Donald Moden on October 29, 1942. They moved to Junction City in 1955 and returned to Clay Center in 1982. Donald preceded Velma in death on September 20, 2003. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sunshine Club and Union Homemakers. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers and her parents Survivors: Son: Lloyd Moden, Tahlequah, OK Son: Gary and wife Nita Moden, Lenexa, KS Son: Arvin and wife Nancy Moden, Oblong, IL Brother: Larry and wife Vernadell Yarrow, Clay Center, KS 6 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, KS Officiating the service will be Rev. Matthew Coleman Burial will be in Uniondale Cemetery, Clay County, KS Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 10:00 AM until noon atNeill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home Memorials: Meadowlark Hospice, Oblong Children's Christian Home or the First Baptist Church c/o the funeral home
