Vera Wernette

VERA WERNETTE died August 28, 2013 at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS at the age of 85. Vera was born on September 18, 1927 in Industry, Kansas the daughter of Glenn Gibbs and Minnie Linden. Vera was raised in Industry and graduated from CCCHS in 1946. She then went to beauty school in Topeka and owned and operated her own beauty shop in Clay Center until she was married to Charles Wernette on June 6, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2013. Vera was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was active in CWO and the Altar Society. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, past board member for the Area Agency on Aging, a scouting volunteer, junior golf sponsor, and was a member of the O.E.S. In the late 1980s she participated in the March for Peace in Washington, D.C. Vera was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Charles Michael and Guy Kevin and 2 sisters. Survivors include: Son: Jon and wife Darlene Wernette, Clay Center, KS Daughter: Monica Wernette, Manhattan, KS Daughter: Jean Wernette, Wichita, KS Grandchildren: 5 Grand and 19 Great-Grand Brother: Glenn Gibbs, Garden City, KS Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:30AM at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Grennan. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on will be held from 3-7PM Monday, September 2 at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 7PM. Memorials can be made to may be made to the church or to Good Shepherd Hospice House and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
