VERL SWIFT JOHNSON, 95 died May 25, 2014 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, KS. He was born on November 2, 1918 in Clay Center, Kansas. The son of Fred and Elsie (Swift) Johnson. Verl was raised in Clay County and graduated from CCCHS in 1936. He farmed with his family and worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone. Verl served in the US Army during WWII. He married Myrna Bigler on January 23, 1946. Verl returned farming with his father, taking over the operation in the 1950's. Verl and Myrna moved to clay Center in 1981. He was a former member of the Hayes United Methodist Church, current member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church, a member and past Master of the Clay Center Masonic Lodge and the Isis Shrine of Salina, and past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Swick and brother, Clifford Johnson. Survivors: Wife: Myrna Johnson, Clay Center, Kansas Son: Robert and wife, Susan Johnson, Clay Center, Kansas Granddaughter: Kelly Fletcher and husband Matt Grandsons: Jason Swick and wife Peyton, Samuel Johnson and wife Tabitha, Josiah Johnson 9 Greatgrandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Ryan Lynch and Mr. Herb Mugler. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 3-8 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. Memorials: may be made to Meadowlark Hospice or to the Isis Shrine Temple and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
