Verlin Goeckel

VERLIN HENRY LOUIS GOECKEL died February 11, 2009 at Lifecare, Shreveport, LA at the age of 87. He was born on January 7, 1922 in Hanover, KS the son of Goeckel Henry and Materi Magdalene. He was raised in Hanover, KS. Verlin served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Pauline Weber on January 23, 1951, they later divorced. He farmed and worked for Washington County Road Department. In 1963 he worked for Belleville COOp. In 1966 he moved to Newton and worked construction. in 1976, Verlin worked for Dillons, retiring in 1987. He moved tro Clay County in 1988. Verlin married Florence Knoop on October 26, 1989. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2003. In May 2004, he moved to Greenwood, LA to live with his son Raymond. He was a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. He is also preced by a daughter Priscilla and one granddaughter Hanna Goeckel. Survivors include: Son: Ray and wife Elizabeth Goeckel, Greenwood, LA Son: David Goeckel, Silver City, NM Son: Christopher Goeckel, Wichita, KS Brother: Maurice Goeckel, Hanover, KS Brother: Henry Goeckel, Jr., Hanover, KS Grandchildren: 4 Grandchildren & 4 Great-grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas . Officiating the service will be The Rev Larry Grennan. Burial will be at the Morganville Cemetery, Morganville, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday at the funeral home with rosary recited at 5 PM. Memorial to SS peter and Paul Catholic Church c/o the funeral home.
