VIOLA LYDIA PICKETT died September 16, 2013 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, KS at the age of 102. She was born on December 26, 1910 in Clay County, Kansas the daughter of Gustav and Annie (Erb) Klocke. Viola was raised on a farm in the Green-Randolph area. She graduated from Drager School. She married Foster Pickett on February 21, 1934 and he preceded her on August 22, 1971. She and her husband farmed and ran a repair shop in the Randolph Fancy Creek area. They returned many acres of poor farmland to native grasses. In recognition of their conservation efforts, they received the Kansas Bankers Association Award 1954. She was a former member of the Zion Fancy Creek United Methodist Church. She and her husband were Junior and Senior 4-H leaders for 20 years. She moved to Clay Center in 1990 and was a member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond and Wayne and 1 sister, Helen Sweany. Survivors include: Son: Leroy and wife Mary Joyce Pickett, Downers Grove, IL Granddaughter: Barbara Pickett Granddaughter: Pam and husband Mark Sanhamel Great Grandson: Ryan Mark and Shane Foster Sanhamel Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Ryan Lynch. Burial will be at the Fancy Creek Zion Cemetery, Riley County, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21 from Noon until service time at the church Memorials can be made to K.S.U. Foundation Foster L. and Viola L. Pickett Scholarship Fund or the Clay Center United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home
