Wallace Quattlebaum

September 1, 1921 — April 13, 2008

WALLACE E. QUATTLEBAUM died April 13, 2008 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 86. He was born on September 1, 1921 in Letona, Arkansas the son of Earl Quattlebaum and Estell Hughes. Wallace in grew up in Arkansas, Texas and Kansas before graduating from Great Bend High School in 1939. He attended Oklahoma A&M. He served in The US Coast Guard during WWII including one tour in the South Pacific. He married Mary Hawkins in 1942. He owned several businesses in the oil industry before managing the Attica Grain Elevator in Attica, KS. In 1966 he moved to Clay Center and managed the Gordon Mark Elevator which he later purchased. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, Kiwanis Club, Clay Center Chamber of Commerce, Clay Center Planning Commission, Lions Club, Attica City Council and served on the Operating Board and Holding Board at the Clay Center Country Club. Survivors include: Wife: Mary Quattlebaum, Clay Center, KS Son: William and wife Sharie Quattlebaum, Wichita, KS Son: Michael and wife Dana Quattlebaum, Charlotte, NC Daughter: Vickie and husband Sal Gallo, Clay Center, KS Grandson: James and wife Molly Quattlebaum, Wichita, KS Granddaughter: Shauna and husband Eric Dickman, Wichita, KS Grandson: Kevin and wife Diane Quattlebaum, Las Vegas, NV Grandson: Christian Quattlebaum, Huntersville, NC Grandson: Jason Howell, Arcola, PA Grandchildren: 6 Great-grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home Memorials can be made to Wallace Quattlebaum memorial fund to be designated later c/o the funeral home
