Wilfred Abels

WILFRED ABELS died October 3, 2011 at Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 92. He was born on October 29, 1918 in Clay Center Kansas, the son of William and Lula (Kemp) Abels. Wilfred was raised in Clay County. He attended Washington District 15 school and graduated from CCCHS in 1937. Wilfred farmed with his father before joining the US Coast Guard during WWII. He retruned to the farm following the war and married Helen Oberg on November 3, 1948. He continued to farm until moving to Clay Center in 2008. Helen preceded him in death on December 19, 2009. Wilfred was a member of the United Methodist Church where he lead a Sunday School class, Blaine Township trustee, Farm Bureau president, Clay County Republican Party chairman and treasurer and Manhattan Antique Car Club. He is also preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Survivors include: 4 Nieces and 2 Nephews Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Idana Cemetery in Idana, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Myers. Burial will be at the Idana Cemetery, Idana, Kansas.
