WILLIAM D. “BILL” BURCHETT died October 26, 2010 at Clay County Medical
Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 88. He was born on February 19, 1922 in Chillicothe,
Missouri the son of Rosco Burchett and Lena Wigfield. William was raised in Chillicothe and
Marshall, MO and graduated from Marshall High School in 1939. He lived in Topeka before
being drafted into the US Army Air Corps during WWII. William married Ruth Halsey on July
19, 1945. They lived in Loveland and Ft. Collins, CO. Moved to Junction City in 1952 and to
Wakefield in 1968. William worked for the Civil Service on Ft Riley until his retirement in
1977. Ruth preceded him in death on November 14, 1996. He moved to Clay Center in 2006.
He is also preceded by a son, Virgil. He was a life member of the Wakefield VFW, served on the
Wakefield City Council and Tree Board and was a member of the Junction City American
Legion. He is also preceded by a brother, 3 sisters, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Son: Joe Burchett, Clay Center, KS
Son: Dowell Burchett, Longford, KS
Grandchildren: 11 Grand and 8 Great-grand
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10:30 Am at the Madura
Congregational Church in Wakefield, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Todd Britt.
Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery, Wakefield, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on 5-7 PM Thursday at the Wakefield Funeral Home
