Wilma Peterson

WILMA IONE PETERSON died April 11, 2013 at Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, KS at the age of 90. She was born on March 17, 1923 in Clifton, Kansas the daughter of Ralph and Blanche (Cook) Gingles. Wilma moved from Clifton, Kansas to Clay Center, Kansas in 1939. She graduated from Clay County High School in 1941. She married Marvin Peterson on November 11, 1941 and he preceded her on March 28, 2003. While her husband served his country in 1942 she worked in Wichita, Kansas for Beech Aircraft. She was among those known as Rosie the Riveter. After her husband returned from the war in 1945 they farmed in Washington and Clay County. They moved to Clay Center in 1952. She worked for the Co-op Thriftway Grocery retiring in 1987. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leisure Center and the American Legion Auxiliary all of Clay Center. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sons Bruce and Richard, 4 brothers, 1 half-sister, and 1 great-grandson Evan Peterson. Survivors include: Son: Jim and wife Connie Peterson, Manhattan, KS Son: Robert and wife Patricia Peterson, California, MO Son: Don Peterson, Salina, KS Sister: Ruth Erich, Abilene, KS Brother: Lawrence Gingles, Prattville, AL Step-Mother: Christine Cooper, Belleville, KS Grandchildren: 10 Grand and 21 Great-Grandchildren Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 1:30PM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Larry Myers. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15 from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8 PM Memorials can be made to Clay Center United Methodist Church or Clay Center Leisure Center c/o the funeral home
